Electrical & Computer Engineer

Eli Mounts

Associate Power Engineer in Distribution Controls & Sensors R&D — building reliable hardware and software at the edge of the grid, from embedded firmware and RF to the data systems that make sense of it all.

About me

I'm an engineer who likes living where hardware and software meet. I earned my B.S. in Engineering from Northwest Nazarene University with concentrations in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a minor in Computer Science, graduating with a 4.0 GPA.

Today I'm an Associate Power Engineer in a Distribution Controls & Sensors R&D group, where I get to design and develop the next generation of grid-edge devices. My favorite problems sit in embedded systems — getting firmware, sensors, and radios to behave reliably in the real world — but I'm just as happy writing the SQL, automation, or analysis that turns raw signals into something useful.

Before this I interned across the utility and metering industry — RF and HaLow testing at Itron, and data & compliance engineering at Avista — and I've spent years tutoring math, physics, and engineering. Outside of work you'll find me skiing, playing chess, or with a clarinet in hand.

Current work

Currently

Associate Power Engineer

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) · Distribution Controls & Sensors — R&D

I work in research & development on the controls and sensing devices that keep the electrical distribution grid observable and reliable. Day to day, that means bridging the embedded, electrical, and software sides of a product — prototyping, testing, and helping move new ideas toward something that can ship.

Building now

Bespoke Lists

Mobile / web app · In development

A custom list-making app I'm designing and building from the ground up — focused on flexible, personalized lists that adapt to how you actually think and organize. This is my main side project right now; I'll publish a deeper write-up, screenshots, and a link here as it takes shape.

  • Product design
  • Full-stack

Detailed case study coming soon.

Theremin from Scratch

Microelectronics Final · 2024

Built a working theremin — a touchless musical instrument — by combining two oscillator circuits with an amplifier stage, designed and assembled from the component level up.

  • Analog circuits
  • Oscillators
  • Microelectronics

Golf Ball Transportation System

Embedded Systems Design · 2024

Designed an embedded control system to move a ball from a start position to an end position and back using linear motion — optimizing the full cycle for the shortest possible time.
